Amends Section 2501 of the Business and Professions Code to require the Medical Board of California and Osteopathic Medical Board of California to annually review and update disciplinary policies and procedures for licensed physicians and surgeons.

Maintains existing requirement for boards to establish disciplinary policies reflecting emerging and innovative medical practices, including standards for informed consent and alternative medicine investigations.

Specifies that boards must assess the need for informed consent standards so patients understand risks and benefits of available treatment options.

Requires boards to establish standards for investigations involving alternative medicine practices, including appropriate investigator skills and training.

Applies to both the Medical Board of California and the Osteopathic Medical Board of California in their regulation of physicians and surgeons.
