Requires the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to release its 99 one-year lease options for the Shafter Modified Community Correctional Facility no later than January 31, 2022.

Facility was closed by the department on October 31, 2020, pursuant to a 1996 settlement agreement between the department and City of Shafter.

City of Shafter owns the facility but cannot redevelop or lease it to other entities while the department retains its lease options under the settlement agreement.

City of Shafter will incur approximately $120,000 annually in maintenance costs to keep the vacant facility from falling into disrepair.

Legislature finds the lease option release is necessary to prevent economic harm to the City of Shafter and enable local economic development opportunities.
