State Department of Education must develop model content by July 1, 2023, informing parents or guardians about California's child access prevention laws and safe storage of firearms, in consultation with local educational agencies, civil rights groups, and the Department of Justice.

Local educational agencies must include firearm safe storage information in annual parent notifications beginning with the 2023-24 school year, informed by the state-developed model content.

School officials with regular contact with students in grades 6-12 must immediately report any threat or perceived threat of homicide to law enforcement, including copies of relevant documentary evidence.

Law enforcement must immediately conduct an investigation and threat assessment upon notification, including a review of the Department of Justice firearm registry and a schoolsite search if reasonable suspicion exists that it would produce evidence related to the threat.

Local educational agencies and schools are immune from civil liability for damages related to these requirements.
