California Senate recognizes Sikhism as a distinct ethnic and religious minority with significant cultural and historical contributions to the state and United States.

Acknowledges that Sikhism, founded by Guru Nanak in 15th century Punjab, is the fifth largest religion worldwide with over 25 million adherents globally and more than 750,000 in the United States.

Recognizes the Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as the "Living Guru" of Sikhism and its importance in promoting interfaith harmony, peace, and human rights as reflected in United Nations documents.

Affirms Sikh core values of equality, truthful living, service to humanity, and "seva" (self-service) practices such as providing free community meals and service at Gurdwaras.

Commits to promoting mutual understanding and appreciation of Sikh history, culture, and experiences within California's diverse community.
