AB 1756 Summary

• Renames the "Registry of Charitable Trusts" to the "Registry of Charities and Fundraisers" and updates all references throughout state law.

• Allows parties in civil litigation to meet and confer by video conference in addition to in-person or telephone meetings before filing demurrers, motions to strike, or motions for judgment on the pleadings.

• Clarifies settlement procedures by permitting courts to enter judgment based on settlement agreements and retain jurisdiction to enforce settlements, effective January 1, 2025.

• Extends the deadline for the Judicial Council to report on conservatorship court effectiveness from January 1, 2024 to January 1, 2027.

• Schedules repeal of certain municipal court judge compensation and benefits provisions effective January 1, 2074, while preserving vested rights and benefits.
