Requires personal financial literacy instruction to be included in social sciences courses for grades 7 to 12 as part of the adopted course of study.

Applies to all public school districts in California offering courses in grades 7 to 12 inclusive.

Constitutes a state-mandated local program, making school districts eligible for state reimbursement of costs to implement the requirement under Government Code Part 7.

Contains provisions to coordinate with Assembly Bill 1821, with Section 1.5 becoming operative only if both bills are enacted and AB 1871 is enacted after AB 1821.
