Removes requirement that uniformed services deployments be to a combat zone or combat support position, expanding excused absences to cover all active duty deployments where family members are called to duty, on leave, or have immediately returned.

Superintendent discretion determines the period of time for which absences related to uniformed services deployments are excused.

Pupils absent under these provisions must be allowed to complete missed assignments and tests for full credit upon satisfactory completion within a reasonable timeframe.

Absences under this section count toward average daily attendance but do not generate state apportionment payments.

Contains conditional operative provisions coordinating with Senate Bill 1138 and Assembly Bill 2499 to avoid conflicting amendments to Education Code Section 48205.
