Community water systems serving schoolsites must test for lead in all potable water system outlets by January 1, 2027, with exemptions for buildings constructed or modernized after January 1, 2010, and previously tested outlets.

Community water systems must report lead test results to the applicable schoolsite or local educational agency within 10 business days (or 2 business days if levels exceed 5 parts per billion) and to the State Water Resources Control Board.

If lead levels exceed 5 parts per billion, the local educational agency or schoolsite must notify parents and guardians within 30 schooldays or 60 days, immediately shut down affected water outlets, and provide lead-free drinking water alternatives.

All test results must be made publicly available by posting on the local educational agency's or schoolsite's internet website, or provided upon request if no website is maintained; the state board must also post results on its website.

The state board shall coordinate with community water systems and schoolsites to eliminate duplicative testing that may overlap with federal Environmental Protection Agency requirements.
