Active attorneys must report annually through their My State Bar online profile whether they provided pro bono legal services and hours of reduced fee legal services during the preceding calendar year.

Reporting requirement exempts attorneys employed by legal aid organizations, government entities, or those prohibited by employers from doing pro bono work if they declare this prohibition.

Reported information must be kept confidential and exempt from public disclosure under the California Public Records Act, but the State Bar may publish aggregated and anonymized reports.

State Bar must retain reported information for at least five years for historical record purposes.

Failure to comply with reporting requirements is not grounds for disciplinary or administrative action, and no license fee moneys can be used to implement these provisions.
