AB 2581 Summary

• Requires the Board of Registered Nursing, Board of Psychology, Physician Assistant Board, and Board of Behavioral Sciences to consider including maternal mental health courses in their continuing education requirements for licensees.

• Amends continuing education standards for registered nurses, psychologists, physician assistants, marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers, professional clinical counselors, and educational psychologists to address maternal mental health training.

• Adds Section 2914.5 requiring the Board of Psychology to consider including maternal mental health courses in its continuing professional development standards.

• Includes multiple operative sections with conditions depending on whether companion bills AB 2270, SB 639, and SB 1526 are enacted, with priority given to the most recent enactment to avoid conflicting amendments to the same code sections.

• Approved by Governor September 28, 2024, with no appropriation required.
