Authorizes courts to extend mental health diversion periods for up to 4 months based on a mental health treatment provider's recommendation to continue a defendant's treatment progress.

Applies to defendants found appropriate candidates for diversion in lieu of commitment for competency restoration under Section 1370.

Removes previous restrictions that limited total waiting time plus diversion period to 30 months or the maximum sentence for the most serious offense, whichever was shorter.

Maintains existing eligibility requirements and exclusions, including prohibitions on diversion for murder, voluntary manslaughter, rape, and sexual offenses requiring sex offender registration.

Requires courts to consider mental health treatment provider recommendations when deciding whether to extend the diversion period beyond the standard 2-year limit for felonies.
