Amends Penal Code Section 18155 to add evidence of body armor acquisition as a factor courts may consider when determining whether to issue a gun violence restraining order.

Defines body armor as specified in Penal Code Section 16288 and designates it as permissible evidence of increased risk for violence.

Courts may now consider evidence of body armor acquisition within six months prior to the petition filing date when evaluating grounds for a gun violence restraining order.

Maintains existing requirements that courts issue ex parte orders prohibiting subjects from possessing, owning, or purchasing firearms or ammunition when grounds are established.

Approved by Governor on September 26, 2023, and filed with Secretary of State the same date.
