AB 3064 Summary

• Authorizes the Department of Justice to charge fees for firearm safety device roster listings (effective January 1, 2026), including initial listing fees and annual storage fees for device prototypes.

• Requires new devices on the roster to have manufacturer name, model number, and model name engraved or permanently affixed; allows similar devices with only cosmetic differences to be listed without retesting.

• Establishes reporting requirements and fees for firearm imports, transfers by gift/bequest, and transfers by operation of law; makes providing false information on these reports a misdemeanor offense.

• Requires manufacturers to notify the Department of Justice within 7 days of product recalls and authorizes the department to remove recalled devices from the roster.

• Clarifies that lock boxes compliant with firearm storage requirements include those listed on the Department's Roster of Firearm Safety Devices at the time of purchase.
