Allows service of a summons and complaint to be completed on the first attempt by leaving documents with a warden, sheriff, or jailer if the only known address for the defendant is a state prison or county jail.

Requires wardens, sheriffs, or jailers to notify the server within 24 hours if the person has been transferred or released, in which case service is not effective.

Extends the same service procedure to subpoenas served on persons whose only known address is a state prison or county jail.

Updates gender-specific language throughout the Code of Civil Procedure sections to use gender-neutral terminology.
