Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) must study health effects of microplastics in drinking and bottled water to evaluate toxicity characteristics and safe levels.

OEHHA shall provide biennial status updates and post a final report on its internet website regarding microplastics health effects research.

State Water Resources Control Board may request OEHHA prepare and publish a public health goal for microplastics in drinking water after reviewing the study findings.

Study must either identify safe microplastics levels anticipated not to cause adverse health effects or identify data gaps needed to establish those levels.
