Requires the State Fire Marshal to propose updates to fire safety standards in the California Building Standards Code before the next triennial edition adopted after January 1, 2025

Updates must address requirements for lithium-based battery systems that comply with UL 9540 standard at facilities controlled by communications utilities

Updates shall specify the environments where communications utilities must deploy lithium-based battery systems to meet Public Utilities Commission regulations for 72-hour backup power for telecommunications infrastructure under Section 776.2 of the Public Utilities Code

Approved by Governor on September 27, 2024 and filed with Secretary of State the same date
