Weather protocols must include clear criteria for determining extreme weather conditions, procedures for monitoring forecasts, communication procedures with staff and parents, indoor activity alternatives, staff training on weather-related distress, and coordination with local agencies.

Protocols must be annually reviewed and updated to reflect best practices, weather pattern changes, safety advances, and stakeholder feedback.

State Department of Education shall provide technical assistance to local educational agencies beginning January 1, 2026; interscholastic athletic programs administered by the California Interscholastic Federation remain subject to existing CIF guidelines.
