State Department of Education must contract with county offices of education by March 1, 2022 to develop model curriculum on Vietnamese American refugee experience covering the period from the Vietnam War and Fall of Saigon in 1975 to the year 2000, to be completed by September 1, 2024

Model curriculum for Vietnamese American refugee experience must include authentic voices, oral testimony from survivors and refugees, primary source documents, and be accessible to kindergarten through grade 12 educators

State Department of Education must contract with county offices of education by April 1, 2022 to develop model curriculum on Cambodian American history and heritage (changed from genocide focus) covering similar content requirements, to be completed by September 1, 2024

School districts, charter schools, and county offices of education are encouraged to offer courses based on these model curricula as electives in social sciences or world history for grades 7-12

If Commission on State Mandates determines the bill imposes state-mandated costs, reimbursement shall be made pursuant to Government Code Part 7
