CA SB416

Requires all new building and major renovation projects larger than 10,000 gross square feet undertaken by state agencies to obtain LEED Gold or higher certification for projects initiated on or after January 1, 2024.

Allows state agencies to obtain LEED Silver certification instead if they find that LEED Gold conflicts with critical operational or security requirements, is cost ineffective, or conflicts with California Building Code requirements.

Permits alternative equivalent or higher rating systems only when approved by the Director of General Services.

Applies the LEED version in effect at the time the project schematic design documents are initiated by the state agency.

Excludes district agricultural associations from the requirement.
