Celebrates March 21, 2024, as the beginning of the Persian New Year (Nowroz) and extends best wishes for a peaceful and prosperous celebration to all Californians.

Recognizes that Nowroz is celebrated by more than 300 million people worldwide on the day of the vernal equinox and has been designated as International Day of Nowroz by the United Nations since 2010.

Acknowledges that Nowroz symbolizes springtime renewal, peace, and community solidarity, with celebrations lasting multiple days featuring family visits, gift exchanges, and forgiveness of past wrongs.

Notes that California has the largest population of Afghans outside Afghanistan and that 54 percent of Iranian immigrants in America reside in California.

Recognizes the lasting contributions of Persian civilization to the world, including the Cylinder of Cyrus the Great as an early expression of human rights.
