Senate Resolution 124 recognizes the election of Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum as the first female president in Mexico's 203-year history, elected in the 2024 Mexican presidential election.

Dr. Sheinbaum holds a Ph.D. in energy engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and conducted doctoral research at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California.

Dr. Sheinbaum served as Secretary of the Environment from 2000 to 2006, Mayor of Tlalpan district from 2015 to 2017, and Mayor of Mexico City from 2018 to 2023.

The resolution celebrates Dr. Sheinbaum as the first female president among the three largest North American countries (Canada, United States, and Mexico) and notes her contributions to climate science as a contributor to the 2007 UN IPCC report that received the Nobel Peace Prize.

California's Senate expresses support for enhanced collaboration with Dr. Sheinbaum's administration and acknowledges her presidency as a significant milestone for gender equity and representation that will inspire women across California and the world.
