Increases the probation period for vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated from a maximum of 1 year (misdemeanor) or 2 years (felony) to a minimum of 3 years and maximum of 5 years for all convictions

Applies to unlawful killing of a human being without malice while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, including both gross vehicular manslaughter (with gross negligence) and standard vehicular manslaughter (without gross negligence)

Gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated remains punishable by 4, 6, or 10 years in state prison, or 15 years to life for repeat offenders with prior DUI or vehicular manslaughter convictions

Standard vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated remains punishable by up to 1 year in county jail or 16 months to 4 years in state prison

No state reimbursement to local agencies is required because the bill changes penalties for an existing crime
