Requires all California postsecondary institutions (UC, CSU, community colleges, and private institutions) to adopt written voluntary medical leave of absence policies starting with the 2027-28 academic year

Students taking medical leave cannot be required to withdraw from the institution and must be guaranteed readmission to their program of study without reapplying

Medical leave must be allowed for at least one academic year, with extensions permitted for medical necessity; covers mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and substance use disorders

Institutions must provide reasonable accommodations for students facing medical challenges, including allowing them to make up missed tests and maintain involvement in campus activities

Policies must be included in required training for faculty and staff, presented at student orientations, and prominently posted on institutional websites
