Los Angeles County must implement a body-worn camera program for the County of Los Angeles Probation Department, covering all probation officers and staff who interact with clients in the field and in facilities

The county, probation department, and employee organizations must develop a body-worn camera policy mirroring law enforcement best practices by June 1, 2027, with full program implementation required by January 1, 2028

The policy must address minimum requirements including which officers wear cameras, camera specifications, optimal body placement, public notification practices, and data retention procedures

The bill applies only to Los Angeles County due to the unique challenges posed by the size and population overseen by its probation department

State reimbursement to the county would be required if the Commission on State Mandates determines the bill creates state-mandated costs
