Requires the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) to establish a pilot project assessing whether firefighting helicopters equipped with autonomous aerial suppression technology can be transitioned into operational use in the state

Mandates the department invite local, state, tribal, and federal fire agencies to participate in familiarization and training activities for the autonomous technology

Requires convening of leading California fire professionals within 60 days of pilot completion or by January 1, 2029 (whichever comes first) to assess pilot performance and determine how to incorporate the technology into state wildfire mitigation efforts

Performance metrics may include ability to operate in varying wind conditions, detection of people and equipment in drop zones, time in autonomous versus manual modes, and coordination with human-piloted aircraft

Operators of autonomous aerial suppression technology must submit any reports filed with the FAA, NTSB, or other agencies to the department and Legislature within 30 days, including significant safety incidents and accidents
