Requires the State Fire Marshal to review fire hazard severity zones (moderate, high, and very high) at least once every 5 years, reduced from the current 8-year review cycle

Mandates re-review of areas not currently identified as fire hazard severity zones at least once every 5 years to determine if they should be classified

Applies the same 5-year review requirement to lands within state responsibility areas that are classified into fire hazard severity zones

Fire hazard severity zone classifications are based on fuel loading, slope, fire weather, and areas where winds are identified as a major cause of wildfire spread

Review timelines must coincide with state responsibility area land reviews and, when possible, align with county general plan updates
