Prohibits defendants who developed, modified, or used artificial intelligence from claiming as a legal defense that the AI autonomously caused harm to a plaintiff

Defines artificial intelligence as an engineered or machine-based system with varying autonomy levels that can infer from inputs how to generate outputs influencing physical or virtual environments

Preserves defendants' ability to raise other affirmative defenses, including arguments related to causation or foreseeability

Allows defendants to present evidence regarding comparative fault of other persons or entities

Adds Section 1714.46 to the Civil Code; approved by Governor on October 13, 2025
