Prior authorizations for health care services from health care service plans and health insurers must remain valid for at least one year from the date of approval, or throughout the course of prescribed treatment if less than one year

Health care service plans and health insurers are prohibited from rescinding or modifying an authorization after a provider renders health care services in good faith pursuant to that authorization

The bill amends both the Health and Safety Code (governing health care service plans regulated by the Department of Managed Health Care) and the Insurance Code (governing health insurers regulated by the Department of Insurance)

Willful violations by health care service plans would constitute a crime under the Knox-Keene Health Care Service Plan Act of 1975
