CA SB248

Requires the Department of Justice, beginning July 1, 2027, to mail an informational letter to firearm purchasers within 10 days of their application and to persons who report firearm transfers within 10 days of notification

The letter must include information on secure firearm storage requirements, child access prevention laws, and an overview of basic state and federal gun ownership laws

Required content includes data on risks of gun purchase, ownership, and possession, as well as instructions on how to legally transfer or relinquish a firearm

The letter must provide information and resources on gun violence restraining orders, suicide prevention, and domestic violence

The Department of Justice may include any additional information it deems relevant to firearm ownership
