Adds pregnancy as a qualifying "triggering event" that allows individuals to enroll in or change their individual health benefit plan outside of the standard open enrollment period

Applies to both health care service plans regulated by the Department of Managed Health Care and disability insurers regulated by the Department of Insurance

Individuals who become pregnant have 60 days from the triggering event to apply for coverage or select a plan through Covered California (the Exchange)

Joins other existing triggering events such as loss of minimum essential coverage, gaining a dependent, marriage, release from incarceration, and returning from military active duty

Willful violation of this requirement by a health care service plan would constitute a crime under the Knox-Keene Health Care Service Plan Act
