CA SB29

Extends the deadline for a decedent's personal representative or successor in interest to file lawsuits recovering damages for the decedent's pain, suffering, or disfigurement from January 1, 2026 to January 1, 2027

Requires plaintiffs recovering such damages between January 1, 2026 and July 31, 2026 to submit judgment information to the Judicial Council within 60 days, including filing date, disposition date, and damage amounts

Allows any party to the action (not just the plaintiff) to submit the required reporting information to the Judicial Council

Requires the Judicial Council to submit a report to the Legislature by January 1, 2027 covering judgments and settlements from January 1, 2025 through July 31, 2026

Does not alter existing medical malpractice damage caps under Civil Code Section 3333.2 or elder abuse claims under the Welfare and Institutions Code
