Adds sesame to California's official list of major food allergens, joining milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, wheat, peanuts, and soybeans

Beginning July 1, 2026, requires restaurant chains with 20+ locations (those already subject to federal nutrient disclosure rules) to provide written notification of major food allergens in each menu item

Allergen information must be displayed either directly on the menu adjacent to each item, or through a digital format such as a QR code linking to a digital menu

Restaurants using digital-only allergen disclosure must provide alternative methods (allergen charts, separate menus, booklets, or other written materials) for customers who cannot access digital formats

Exempts compact mobile food operations, nonpermanent food facilities, and prepackaged foods already subject to federal allergen labeling requirements
