National or regional accrediting agencies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as of January 1, 2025, will retain that recognition in California until July 1, 2029, as long as they continue operating substantially the same way

The recognition protection applies to accreditation requirements across all California codes and statutes, including professional licensure through the Department of Consumer Affairs and eligibility as an independent institution of higher education

These provisions are temporary and will automatically repeal on January 1, 2030, after which standard federal recognition requirements will apply

The bill amends both the Business and Professions Code and the Education Code to ensure consistent treatment of accrediting agency recognition across regulatory frameworks
