CA SB845

Requires the Superintendent of Public Instruction to update career technical education (CTE) curriculum standards on a cyclical basis not exceeding 5 years, with input from labor representatives, business, and industry advisory groups

Extends work-based learning and work experience education authorization from school districts to county offices of education and charter schools, and expands eligible activities to include school-based registered apprenticeships, internships, and mentorships

Allows pupils in grade 10 (previously grade 11) to earn credit for work experience education programs, with up to 40 semester credits total and 10 credits per semester

Establishes requirements for high school-based youth apprenticeship programs, including allowing student apprentices ages 16+ to complete portions of their apprenticeship before graduation while earning course credit

Authorizes the State Department of Education to collaborate with the Division of Apprenticeship Standards and California Community Colleges to convene an interagency workgroup for developing guidance on school-based youth apprenticeship programs and aligning career education priorities
