Prohibits operating a robotic device (including mobile robots, unmanned ground vehicles, and drones) equipped with a weapon such as firearms, stun guns, chemical agents, or kinetic energy projectiles

Violations are punishable as an infraction with a fine between $100 and $2,000

Exempts government employees acting within the scope of their duties, employees of organizations developing robotic devices for government use who can demonstrate that purpose, and academic researchers at California higher education institutions with reasonable safety precautions

Exempts operators of nonautonomous robots designed for robot competitions (though firearms may never be mounted), and those using blank-firing weapons as props for film, television, or entertainment productions

Does not regulate or authorize government entities' own procurement or operation of weapon-equipped robotic devices
