HB10-1406 Summary

• Requires all school districts and charter schools to ensure new construction or redesign projects achieve minimum energy-efficiency standards beginning January 1, 2011

• Directs the state fire suppression administrator, in consultation with the governor's energy office, to establish and adopt rules for energy-efficient design and construction of school buildings and structures

• Rules must ensure school buildings and structures achieve a satisfactory certification rating based on an energy and environmental design rating system developed by a nonprofit trade organization

• Adds advising duties to the governor's energy office regarding adoption and establishment of energy-efficiency rules for school buildings

• Takes effect 12:01 a.m. on the day following the ninety-day period after final adjournment of the general assembly (August 11, 2010), subject to referendum petition
