SB10-017 Summary

• Creates a weighted student funding planning grant program in the Department of Education to provide up to $100,000 one-time grants to school districts for designing weighted student funding formulas or providing professional development for implementation.

• School districts must submit applications beginning August 1 of each budget year specifying the grant amount requested and how funds will be used, including whether they already use a weighted funding formula and their implementation timeline.

• The Department awards grants in the order applications are received, subject to receipt of sufficient federal moneys or gifts, grants, and donations; no state moneys may be appropriated for the program.

• The Commissioner of Education must notify the Revisor of Statutes by July 1, 2011 whether the Department received sufficient funding to implement the grant program.

• The entire grant program repeals automatically on July 1, 2011 if the Department has not received sufficient federal funds or donations to implement it.
