• Allows committee chairs or ranking minority members to request the legislative council staff prepare a poverty impact statement for bills introduced after January 1, 2012, if the measure appears to affect at least one specified area

• Qualifying areas include child and family poverty, asset building, educational opportunities, workforce quality jobs, community-based organization cooperation, tax policies, and work support services like child care and housing

• Poverty impact statements must include estimated significant impacts, cost-benefit analysis, data sources used, and brief description of analysis methods

• Statements remain confidential until the requesting member releases them and may be prepared as separate documents from fiscal impact reviews

• Legislative council staff may collaborate with state agencies, the state demographer, or nonpartisan analysts to prepare statements within existing resources
