HB11-1108 Summary

• Creates a 13-member County Coroner Review Commission with four legislative members and nine members representing coroners, sheriffs, district attorneys, counties, municipalities, and hospitals

• Commission shall study coroner duties and responsibilities, whether the office should remain elected, additional qualifications and training requirements, and whether a medical examiner system would be preferable

• Commission shall also examine whether coroners should be elected from judicial districts rather than counties and identify any other system changes needed to better serve Colorado residents

• Initial appointments must be made by September 1, 2011, with the commission submitting a report to local government committees by the first day of the 2013 legislative session

• Commission members serve without compensation or expense reimbursement and receive no legislative staff support
