HB 11-1194 Summary

• The Colorado Alzheimer's coordinating council shall develop a proposal for a voluntary statewide Alzheimer's disease and dementia care training certification program, contingent upon receipt of sufficient gifts, grants, and donations.

• The council shall establish a committee including council members and representatives from the Department of Public Health and Environment, State Board of Nursing, and Department of Regulatory Agencies to develop recommendations for the certification program.

• The committee must address training curriculum standards, whether certification applies to facilities, agencies, or individual staff members, required staff training percentages, oversight agency, implementation timeline, public information availability, and funding mechanisms.

• The council must submit a written report with recommendations and any necessary legislation to the governor, state Senate Health and Human Services Committee, and House Health and Environment Committee no later than November 1, 2011.

• The bill becomes effective August 10, 2011, unless a referendum petition is filed, in which case it requires voter approval at the November 2012 general election.
