SB11-099 Summary

• Exempts pickup trucks, sport utility vehicles, and trailers with a gross combination rating of less than 26,001 pounds from commercial vehicle safety rules and inspections.

• Defines "pickup truck" as a truck with an open-top rear cargo bed separate from the cab, typically marketed and sold for noncommercial use.

• Defines "sport utility vehicle" as a vehicle with a truck-like chassis designed for occasional off-road use, typically marketed and sold for noncommercial use.

• Maintains existing exemptions for school buses and school district vehicles that do not receive remuneration for their use.

• Effective July 1, 2011.
