HB 12-1061: The Skills For Jobs Act

• Requires the Department of Higher Education to produce an annual report on state workforce need projections and educational credential production in consultation with the Department of Labor, Department of Regulatory Agencies, and other entities.

• Report must indicate anticipated workforce needs and the number of degrees, certificates, and credentials expected to be issued by higher education institutions, private occupational schools, vocational schools, high school vocational programs, and apprenticeship programs.

• Report must identify any workforce needs not being met by existing education and training programs, and identify institutions that may meet projected workforce needs.

• Department must provide the report by January 15 of each year beginning in 2013 to legislative education committees, economic development committees, business and labor committees, and the Governor.

• Department must distribute the report to all public postsecondary governing boards and work with the Department of Education to provide it to public school districts, charter schools, and private schools.

• Section is repealed effective July 1, 2016.
