HB 12-1137: Music Therapy Practice Act

• Establishes the "Music Therapy Practice Act" requiring music therapists to register with the Division of Registrations in the Department of Regulatory Agencies to practice in Colorado on or after July 1, 2013.

• Registration qualifications include: minimum age 18, bachelor's degree in music therapy from an accredited institution, completion of clinical training hours as determined by the director, and passage of a national examination.

• Registered music therapists may use titles including "Colorado Music Therapist Registered," "Registered Music Therapist," and the abbreviation "C.M.T.R."

• The director is authorized to discipline registrants for violations including fraud, sexual misconduct with clients, substance abuse, failure to maintain professional liability insurance, and other unprofessional conduct.

• The regulation of music therapists is subject to sunset review and automatic repeal on September 1, 2017, unless the General Assembly extends the program.
