HB 12-1306 Summary

• School districts and institute charter schools may voluntarily report to the Department of Education by April 30 each year the number of students in grades 3-10 who took statewide math assessments and the number in grade 11 who took a curriculum-based college entrance exam.

• The Department of Education shall compare these assessment numbers to October 1 pupil enrollment counts by May 15 each year to identify schools that gained students after the enrollment count date.

• Schools and charter schools receiving more students than their October 1 count shall receive supplemental funding equal to the per-pupil on-line education funding amount for each excess student, distributed before the end of the fiscal year.

• The State Charter School Institute shall retain only the portion of funds permitted by negotiated agreements with individual charter schools and must pass remaining funds to those schools.

• Appropriates $1,253,132 from the state education fund to the Department of Education for fiscal year 2012-2013 to implement the enrollment adjustment program.
