SB12-050 Summary

• Prohibits governmental entities from issuing traffic citations based on automated vehicle identification systems (red light cameras, speed cameras) on highways, roads, or streets

• Exempts toll road/toll highway companies from the prohibition, allowing them to use automated systems for toll collection and high occupancy vehicle lane violations

• Prevents evidence from automated vehicle identification systems from being reported to the Department of Motor Vehicles, used in credit reports, or shared with insurance companies

• Requires temporary warning signs posted at least 300 feet before speed detection zones and conspicuous signs 200-500 feet before red light camera locations

• Takes effect August 7, 2012, subject to referendum petition approval by voters in the November 2012 general election
