• Schools may adopt policies to acquire and maintain stock supplies of epinephrine auto-injectors for emergency use by school nurses and trained designated school personnel.

• School nurses and designated school personnel who receive proper training may administer epinephrine auto-injectors to any student believed to be experiencing anaphylaxis, regardless of whether the student has a personal prescription.

• Schools must implement management plans for students with life-threatening allergies and report severe allergic reactions and epinephrine auto-injector administrations to the Colorado Department of Education.

• The State Board of Education must adopt rules by December 31, 2013 establishing training standards, storage procedures, allergen prevention protocols, and incident reporting requirements for schools maintaining epinephrine supplies.

• Schools, districts, and employees are protected from liability for good-faith administration of epinephrine auto-injectors in accordance with adopted policies and standing orders, except in cases of willful or wanton conduct.
