HB13-1226 Summary

• Prohibits concealed handgun permit holders from possessing concealed handguns in any building or structure used by a public institution of higher education for any purpose.

• Prohibits concealed handgun permit holders from possessing concealed handguns in stadiums or arenas used by public institutions of higher education to host athletic events, extracurricular events, and graduation ceremonies.

• Prohibits concealed handgun permit holders from possessing concealed handguns at outdoor, institution-sponsored events on higher education campuses where the campus chief administrator and campus safety officer have elected to prohibit firearms.

• Permits security officers employed or retained by contract by public institutions of higher education to carry concealed handguns on campus while on duty.

• Defines "public institution of higher education" to include colleges, universities, community colleges, technical colleges, junior colleges, and area vocational schools, including the Auraria Higher Education Center.
