SB13-039: Regulation of Audiologists

• Creates Article 29.9 of Title 12, Colorado Revised Statutes to establish licensing requirements and regulatory oversight for audiologists by the Division of Professions and Occupations.

• Requires audiologists to hold a doctoral degree in audiology from an accredited institution or a master's degree in audiology with a nationally recognized certificate of competency to qualify for licensure.

• Establishes disciplinary actions including fines up to $2,500 per offense, probation, license suspension or revocation for violations such as false statements in applications, unprofessional conduct, or failure to maintain professional liability insurance.

• Mandates audiologists maintain professional liability insurance in amounts determined by the director and develop written plans to protect patient medical records with proper disposal and access procedures.

• Appropriates $58,966 and 0.6 FTE for fiscal year 2013 to implement the article, with the licensing program set to sunset September 1, 2020, subject to departmental review.
