SB 13-082 Summary

• Creates a permanent interim Wildfire Matters Review Committee within the General Assembly to review state policies and resources addressing wildfire prevention and mitigation.

• Committee consists of 10 members: 5 from the Senate (3 appointed by President, 2 by Minority Leader) and 5 from the House (3 appointed by Speaker, 2 by Minority Leader), with terms of two years.

• Committee must meet at least once annually during the interim period to review and propose legislation relating to wildfire prevention, mitigation, public safety, and forest health issues, with authority to consult experts and require cooperation from state agencies including the Colorado Department of Public Safety and State Forest Service.

• Transfers all remaining powers, duties, and responsibilities from the Lower North Fork Wildfire Commission to the new Wildfire Matters Review Committee.

• Committee members serve without compensation but receive reimbursement for necessary expenses and per diem; staff assistance provided through existing legislative service agency appropriations; legislation repeals effective July 1, 2018.
