Senate Bill 13-151 Summary

• Extends the sunset date for massage therapist regulation from September 1, 2013 to September 1, 2022, allowing continued oversight by the Division of Professions and Occupations.

• Transitions massage therapist regulation from a registration system to a licensure system effective July 1, 2014, with all active registrations automatically converting to licenses.

• Expands approved massage therapy schools to include programs at schools located outside Colorado that are approved by the Director, and adds a new definition of "licensee."

• Adds new grounds for discipline including failure to report adverse actions from other jurisdictions, failure to meet generally accepted standards of care, and allows the Director to issue letters of admonition and confidential letters of concern.

• Appropriates $149,691 and 1.9 full-time equivalents to the Department of Regulatory Agencies for fiscal year 2013-2014 to implement the transition from registration to licensure.
